The Contact Lens Institute (CLI) has published a 3-part video series to provide educational tips for new soft contact lens patients about healthy wear and care behaviors.1 The series features CLI Visionaries, who provide professional perspectives on best practices and highlight the EASY (Eyes, Awareness, Safety & You) Way program, according to a news release.
Participating Visionaries include Shelby Brogdon, OD, McFarland Eye Care; Andrew Bruce, LDO, ABOM, NCLEM, FCLSA, ASB Opticianry Education Services; Ryan Corte, OD, Northlake Eye; Jennifer Liao, OD, FAAO, FSLS, New England College of Optometry; Jennifer Stewart, OD, Look New Canaan; and Christopher Wolfe, OD, FAAO, Dipl. ABO, Exclusively Eyecare.1
“I like to put myself in the shoes of the new contact lens wearer when it comes to being very intentional, making things simple for them to understand and to be able to replicate at home,” Corte said in one of the videos.2 “Educating new contact lens wearers about appropriate wear and care is critical for the success of the entire time period that they’re wearing contact lenses.”
In its fifth year, The EASY Way is available internationally for eye care practices, and is particularly utilized by those in the US and Canada. The program provides infographics and companion digital resources for use in practices. The EASY Way is centered around the 3 easy steps of think clean, remember fresher is better, and trust your eye doctor. Patients are advised to wash and dry their hands every time before touching their lenses or eyes. If using reusable lenses, patients should clean and disinfect them with each removal, and to clean the lens case as directed. Lenses and the case should be kept away from any type of water.1
Additionally, contacts should only be worn for as long as the patient’s eye care provider advises and should be replaced with fresh lenses on schedule. Daily disposable lenses should only be worn once, and new solution should be used for reusable lens disinfection and storage. Lens cases should be replaced at least every 3 months.1
All components in the program are available for free download on CLI’s The EASY Way resource page.
