Remote eye care solutions company DigitalOptometrics has announced the launch of the first autonomous slit lamp with remote control capabilities, to be unveiled at Vision Expo East (VEE) 2025 in Orlando Florida.1 The device was created in collaboration with SlitLED and featuring AutoAquire, RemotePilot, and Multi-Slit views, which allow for ultra-high resolution, whole cornea, and anterior segment images with detailed views of the conjunctiva and lens, according to a news release.
Additionally, the slit lamp allows a staff member or remote doctor to capture images and video with the touch of a button, which utilizes traditional complete anterior segment evaluation practices while enabling reliable, repeatable results that do not require specialized training.1
The AutoCapture, AutoFocus, and multi-slit views also capture images in a fraction of a second, which allows for precision diagnostics. The autonomous slit lamp allows for doctors to review post capture images with zoom, slit control, and side-by-side comparison with previous visits with its remote review flexibility. System protocols are also customizable by the clinic, or can be used on preset acquisition protocols.1
“Integrating this autonomous slit lamp into DigitalOptometrics’ remote care platform signifies a significant leap forward in providing comprehensive eye care remotely,” the release stated. “By empowering clinics and remote practices to efficiently conduct high quality slit lamp exams, this innovation makes diagnostic care more accessible and efficient than ever before.”
Private demos can be scheduled if you plan to attend Vision Expo East from February 19-22.
As for DigitalOptometrics, the company provides a Doctor on Demand service that allows practices access to conduct comprehensive eye exams remotely 7 days a week. Additionally, DigitalOptometrics Translate is capable of real time translation in 16 languages on the company’s remote care platform.2
