EyeCon 2023: Dr Julie Song receives Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Award

Julie Song, OD, FAAO, SUNY, College of Optometry, New York, was honored as the recipient of the inaugural Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Award for the category of Best in Optometry during the EyeCon 2023 conference, December 1-2, at the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa in Sanibel, Florida.

Julie Song, OD, FAAO, SUNY, College of Optometry, New York, was honored as the recipient of the inaugural Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Award for the category of Best in Optometry during the EyeCon 2023 conference, December 1-2, at the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa in Sanibel, Florida.

Dr. Song received the honor during an awards ceremony on Friday, Dec. 1, at the Optometry Times® and Ophthalmology Times® EyeCon conference.

The 2023 Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards program is specifically tailored to acknowledge and celebrate the exemplary achievements and invaluable contributions of residents across three distinct categories. The program pays tribute to the rising stars in the field of ophthalmology, optometry and retina care, highlighting their exceptional contributions to patient care, research and clinical practice.

The winners of 2023 Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards are:

  • Best in Ophthalmology: Moon Jeong Lee, MD, Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland.
  • Best in Optometry: Julie Song, OD, FAAO, SUNY, College of Optometry, New York, New York.
  • Best in Retina Care: Marta Stevanovic, MD, Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School.

The Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards are designed to honor outstanding residents and rising stars who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation and commitment to advancing the field of eye care. These individuals have shown remarkable promise and potential in their contributions to patient care, research and commitment of residents.

A distinguished panel of experts in the field of eye care completed the review of all nominations. Nominees were evaluated based on the merits of their contributions in the categories of leadership, education/research, and patient care.
