Resources available during the month include a seminar series and course bundles.
With Myopia Profile’s second annual Myopia Action Month having kicked off at the start of September, eye care providers now have access to free online seminars, lectures by industry experts, and educational resources. The global initiative is working to unite eye care professionals and combat myopia in pediatric patients.1
“When we launched Myopia Action Month last year, feedback from the eye care community and industry was essential in shaping the curriculum,” said Kate Gifford, Kate Gifford, PhD, BAppSc(Optom)Hons, cofounder of Myopia Profile, in a news release. “Heading into the second year, we’re expanding upon a successful foundation. The 2024 edition will bring even more engaging content and practical learning experiences.”
This year’s recognition brings a new online seminar series, which will be released September 9. Each seminar is 90 minutes with 4 15-minute lectures given by the Myopia Profile team. The series is divided into 2 educational tracks, “Foundations” and “Advanced,” with lectures including topics of research, myopia control, orthokeratology, and ocular diseases in myopia, among others.1,2 Additionally, Myopia Management Made Simple courses are available and can be purchased as a Foundation Course Bundle. This bundle includes 6 courses and 6 continuing education hours. The courses can also be taken individually. Training tools are also available for practice managers to administer for team engagement.2
“The resources we’re developing are designed to empower ECPs at any stage to refine their myopia action plans and management strategies,” said Gifford in the release. “Our 2024 event will introduce new practice support, online courses, downloadable resources, and a host of other additions. We had a fantastic first year, and we’re committed to making this September even more valuable in turning myopia knowledge and awareness into action.”
More information on how to register, which can be done free of cost, is available on the Myopia Action Month website.
CooperVision and the American Optometric Association’s The Myopia Collective has also announced its support of Myopia Action Month by urging members of the optometric profession to become members of The Myopia Collective.3 Information on the collective and signing up as a member can be found on the initiative’s website.
