OCULUS, Inc, is expanding their software offerings with the new Myopia Software Package for the Pentacam® AXL Wave to help optometrists manage myopia, fit ortho-k lenses, and screen for keratoconus and other ocular diseases with one device. The upgraded software package helps eye care providers (ECPs) assess axial length growth rate, refractive error, corneal stability and health; explain clinical significance of changes to patients and parents; and fit contact lenses as well as evaluate ortho-k treatment.

“With the addition of the Myopia Software Package, the Pentacam® AXL Wave now provides a fully integrated solution set to redefine standards in the field,” David Kern, Head of Optometry & Accessories Product Management at OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, said in a press release. “The seamless connection between myopia management and orthokeratology is a critical advantage, as ortho-k is one of the most effective interventions for slowing myopia progression.”

Displays included in the Myopia Software Package for Pentacam® AXL Wave

Growth curves

The growth curve module compares a patient’s axial length and refractive error with age- and ethnicity-dependent growth curves calculated from 20,000+ eyes using exclusive Brien Holden Vision Institute algorithms. The graph simplifies risk assessment and projects potential progression to streamline clinical evaluation and ease explanations to patients and parents.

Gullstrand Refractive Analysis System (GRAS) module

This module compares individual optical components with the age-adjusted Gullstrand eye.

Myopia guide

In this display, users can access a risk factor questionnaire and customized report that ECPs can use to boost conversions and increase buy-in for treatment recommendations.

Growth control

The growth control module automatically calculates annual axial length growth rate visually compared with age-adjusted normative data, enabling precise analysis of myopia treatment efficacy. The color-coded parameters validate treatment success or highlight areas of improvement, empowering ECPs to alter treatment or stay the course based on the patient’s needs.

With the growing prevalence of myopia and pediatric keratoconus, early detection is more important than ever so ECPs can diagnose and intervene in the progression of the diseases. The statistic for myopia prevalence is widely known—half of the global population will be affected by myopia by 20502—the incidence of pediatric keratoconus is less commonly discussed. In a 2024 study, 1 in 334 pediatric patients were diagnosed with keratoconus following tomography.3

The first Pentacam® model launched in 2002 and has been globally recognized as the gold standard in anterior segment tomography in the intervening years. The Pentacam® AXL Wave continues this tradition of precise data via tear film-independent scans of high-resolution Scheimpflug tomography, biometry, wavefront aberrometry, objective refraction, and retroillumination.

The Myopia Software Package is available for download now in the United States.
