Chief Optometric Editor Ernie Bowling, OD, reports on retail outlet Pearle Vision’s plans for expansion this year, during the 90th annual SECO International meeting in Atlanta:

Pearle Vision, North America’s largest licensed optical brand, outlined its 2013 expansion plans. Tammy Reaves, vice president of licensing and development for Pearle Vision, said the company intends to convert 35 corporate locations to franchise opportunities in addition to building up to 10 new stores this year.

The company has identified Florida, Ohio, and Michigan as the first markets for its re-licensing efforts. Specifically in Florida, Pearle is looking to convert corporate locations in Miami, West Palm Beach, Naples, Jacksonville, and Orlando to licensed locations. In Ohio, the company intends to convert locations in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Michigan centers in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Flint are available.

“We are looking for doctors who desire to work with a proven brand and provide superior eyecare and patient service,” Reaves said.

Pearle Vision is built around a doctor-centered business model and is owned by eyewear manufacturer and distributor Luxottica.
