Sun Valley, CA-REM Eyewear and Tumi have partnered to launch Tumi Eyewear. The partnership will expand Tumi’s product range to include a complete collection of sunglasses and optical styles in addition to its travel and business accessories, according to joint announcement by the companies.

Twelve Traverso sunglass styles will launch in January, followed by 10 optical styles and the Compatto reader in March 2012.

The eyewear collection features lightweight, yet strong and resilient carbon fiber temples with Tumi red epoxy tips; two silicone rings on tips for style and grip; custom flex hinges; acid-etched designs on stainless steel; and Japanese craftsmanship.

Tumi’s Compatto reading glasses are constructed with a carbon, graphite, front-paired with beta titanium temples, providing feather weight and remarkable comfort. The reading glass lenses are photochromic, changing from clear inside to a sunglass tint outside. A locking nosepiece allows the temples to fold and lock inside the bridge, creating a thin profile that slips seamlessly into one’s pocket. A creative triangular case made of ballistic nylon folds completely flat and is easy to stow in a briefcase or pocket when not being used.

“Tumi enjoys a remarkable reputation for dependability and innovation that has successfully extended its product range, making it a perfect fit for the eyewear category,” said Mike Hundert, chief executive officer of REM in a prepared statement. “We have invested more than two years of product development to create visionary eyewear that weaves creatively with its core attributes. Tumi consumers love their experiences with this brand, and our eyewear will build on that tradition.”
