The World Council of Optometry (WCO) is looking for nominations for two of its international rewards, the Distinguished Service Award and the International Optometrist Award.

The Distinguished Service Award is the WCO's highest honor. It's awarded to an optometrist who has contributed to the WCO's mission of high quality vision care available all over the world. And the International Optometrist Award is given to an optometrists who's made a contribution to the profession of optometry worldwide.

WCO President, Tone Garaas-Maurdalen, commented on the awards,

“These awards are a wonderful way to recognize and celebrate the achievements of individuals who are improving eye and vision care around the world.

These awards also give us all a chance to reflect on how far the profession has advanced so far, and is a way for WCO to show the optometric community how grateful we are to the fantastic work that is taking place around the world."

The nominations must be made by October 1, 2012 online at the WCO website. The recipients of the awards will be announced in April at the WCO General Delegates' Meeting in Spain.
