Coventry, UK-The British Contact Lens Association recently welcomed Susan Bowers as its president for 2014-15. The new president elect is Brian Tompkins.

“As my term comes to a close I am delighted to be handing over BCLA presidency to Susan Bowers,” says outgoing BCLA President Andy Yorke. “Susan’s commitment to the Association goes without question and the tireless work she carries out behind the scenes is considerable.”

“It is a great honor to become BCLA President at this exciting time,” says Bowers. “I plan to use my term to support members in encouraging many more patients to try contact lenses during their eye examination. I would also like to help raise the profile of fitting children and young people with contact lenses, as the benefits can be truly life changing.”

In related news, Dr. Paul Rose, inventor of the Rose K lens for keratoconus, is the first-ever recipient of the BCLA Industry Award. The award is meant to honor the entrepreneurial work carried out by individuals working in contact lens science, research, and technology.

“I feel very humbled as I can think of many individuals within the contact lens industry who certainly also deserve this award,” says Dr Rose. “In accepting this award, I do so on behalf of the many people who have contributed to make my lenses as universal as they are today.”
